Sugar Law Group protects information provided by the Client in accordance with its obligations under the Rules of Professional Conduct for lawyers and PIPEDA.
Sugar Law Group and its employees keep the confidences of clients. Sugar Law Group confirms that information in all matters that the Client refers will be kept confidential and will not be disclosed, beyond what is required for carrying out the mandate or required by law, to anyone outside the firm. At no time will any confidential information be disclosed or used for the benefit of any other client.
If the purpose for which Sugar Law Group is collecting information directly from a person is obvious from the very nature of the interaction, Sugar Law Group assumes, based on the behaviour of that person, that said person consents to the collection and use of their personal information for such obvious purpose. If a purpose is not obvious, Sugar Law Group explains the purpose for which it collects, uses or discloses that personal information and typically, Sugar Law Group obtains oral consent to this collection, use or disclosure.
The Client always has the option not to consent or to withdraw its consent to the collection, use and disclosure of its personal information. However, under these circumstances Sugar Law Group may be unable to provide or to continue to provide professional services. The Client consents to our collecting, storing and using information regarding the Client and its relevant personnel, including personal information in connection with services provided by Sugar Law Group.
At the request of most clients, for their convenience, Sugar Law Group communicates often by e-mail. At the present time, Sugar Law Group does not encrypt emails. Sugar Law Group requests that the Client advise immediately if the Client does not wish for Sugar Law Group to communicate with the Client by e-mail, or if the Client has other preferences or specific instructions as to communication or any confidentiality issues, so that Sugar Law Group can meet the needs of the Client. Furthermore, Sugar Law Group will also, from time to time, send to the Client information that Sugar Law Group believes is relevant to the business of the Client, including articles and releases. The Client may unsubscribe from such communications at any time.
